If you're facing harassment:
- Move to a safe location or public area with other people
- Call emergency services if you're in immediate danger
- Document the incident (time, location, description)
- Report to authorities (police, campus security, HR)
- Seek support from trusted friends, family, or counselors
Verbal Harassment: Unwanted comments, jokes, slurs, or threats.
Physical Harassment: Unwanted touching, assault, blocking movement.
Stalking: Following, watching, or monitoring someone without consent.
Cyber Harassment: Online threats, intimidation, sharing private info.
Workplace Harassment: Quid pro quo requests, hostile environment.
Women are protected from harassment under various laws:
- Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace Act, 2013
- Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005
- Indian Penal Code Sections 354, 354A, 354B, 354C, 354D
- Information Technology Act for cyber harassment
You have the right to file an FIR at any police station regardless of where the incident occurred.
- Keep emergency contacts on speed dial
- Share your location with trusted contacts when traveling
- Use safety apps that can alert contacts in emergencies
- Trust your instincts and remove yourself from uncomfortable situations
- Travel in groups when possible, especially at night
- Be aware of your surroundings and limit distractions
